Obligation
There are many people who have helped me along the way. Do I owe them something? Do I need to send them money, or a card, or flowers on a regular basis? Should I feel a sense of obligation to the myriad of people who have helped me when I needed it? And when does that obligation cease? Or does it?
Is life like Amway, where the people I help are obligated to me AND to those who helped me along the way - - so that those I help must send money, or a card, or flowers on a regular basis to me and to those who helped me?
And who is keeping track of all of this?
My mother invented the words “thank you”. She gave me these free magic words that somehow free me of further obligation.
