Feelings are a wonderful thing. I’m not sure where they come from, but they make an otherwise mundane existence interesting. Think about where we might be without them. We might be sitting in a room by ourselves; yet we would be completely clueless that we are lonely, frustrated, sad, or desperate. We might be on a roller coaster and unaware that we are excited or afraid. Feelings are a major part of what make us individuals. They add color to a gray world.
But when feelings make us move through this world, the gentle nudge that move us to the next room, we are in dangerous territory. Because feelings are feelings. They are not always based on reality. While they are a wonderful thing, they should not be the captain of our existence. They should not control our destiny. It is often true that we must move contrary to our feelings. When we are afraid, some times we must face our fear. When we are sad, some times we must step in and lift the heart of another. When we are excited, some time we need to keep it to ourselves.
So today I will enjoy my feelings. I will embrace them. But I will not allow them to control me.
