We are born, we live, and we die in pain. Chaos rules much of our existence. We jump hurdles, cross chasms, swim up stream, leap into darkness throughout our brief visit to this planet. We are sojourners like our mothers and fathers before us. We are a wisp of smoke, a vapor, here today and gone tomorrow. We are but a breath. We are strangers in a strange land.
I used to think, “When I get through this situation, this problem, then life will be great.” But problems never end and there’s always another difficulty on the horizon.
I want to make peace with the present. I want to embrace the heartache and pain of the moment. I want to find joy in the struggle. That is the secret; to live in the midst of life’s struggles and to do so with peace, hope, and love.
I have come to realize the future is the past and if I am to be at peace tomorrow, I must be at peace today.
